- שִׁימּוּר, שִׁמּ׳m. (שָׁמַר) guarding, care. B. Kam.15a לאו בחזקת ש׳וכ׳ are not presumed to be guarded against, i. e. need special guarding (Ex. 21:29); ib. בחזקת ש׳וכ׳ are presumed to be safe (the owner is not bound to guard them). Ned.37a שכר ש׳ the teacher is paid for guarding the pupils (and not for the teaching itself). Ib. גדול בר ש׳ הוא does an adult need guarding? Koh. R. to V, 10 צריך ש׳וכ׳ must be watched against weasels ; a. fr.Pl. שִׁימּוּרִים, שִׁמּ׳ (b. h. שִׁמֻּרִים); ליל ש׳ a night of watching. Pes.109b; R. Hash. 11b, a. e., v. שָׁמַר. 2) (v. שְׁמָרִים) clearing wine, straining. Y.Sabb.XX, beg.17c הותר מכלל ש׳ is permitted on the Holy Day as far as straining is concerned; Y.Bets. I, 60d bot.
